Last week's radio show was the second in a series of "Dutch Treat"
mini-specials that will appear every other week until I grow tired of
the concept. Since I have a particular fondness for Dutch
techno/electro/IDM and have a very large back catalog of same, this
could go on for a while. Last week's feature dealt with Amsterdam label
100% Pure. The playlist can be found at
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=30870 .
Next week's Dutch Treat feature will examine Utrecht label U-Trax and
sub-label Phoq U.
Tonight's Wild Kingdom is a perfect example of how a set in preparation
can seemingly develop a mind of its own (more from what records that
happened to be in easy reach than any perverse will of the music itself
- blame it all on the DJ). It started innocently enough with a bit of
IDM from Anthony Manning's Liquid Quartz EP, which dovetailed very
nicely into a cut by Thai expatriate Italian producer Shyza Minelli - a
few cuts down the way, the set had morphed into full-tilt blitzkrieg
stomp from the likes of Mike Ink and DJ Hell, which wasn't precisely
what I had in mind for this week. It worked, though, so I decided to
follow the thread and see what I could to to extricate myself and cool
things down a bit. Listen for the results tonight.
"The Wild Kingdom" airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday
Morning, 12A-3A (7A-10A GMT). Potential listeners outside the San
Francisco Bay area can find a webcast at www.kfjc.org (follow the
links). Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived there.
You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show "Just
Desserts" that aired on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived
playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve
1999/2000.
If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some fairly serious promotion, contact the KFJC
promotions department at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
to those who have sent promo music so far.
