We have a problem...  FreeIPA, as well as other unknown applications, expect the status to be in the old format.  While we can fix this in FreeIPA, it will still break older versions of FreeIPA during replica installs when it tries to setup replication with the new version.  So all active/supported versions of FreeIPA need a code fix (which I have) and need it to be rebuilt and released before we can change replicaLastUpdateStatus*. *We can still have the new JSON attribute, but the original attribute will have to remain the same.  So I need to rework the fix, but the JSON part can still be reviewed.
