Ldap allows filtering this is the format. https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Directory_Server/8.2/html/Administration_Guide/Finding_Directory_Entries-LDAP_Search_Filters.html
Most a lot of APIs allows you to use this format.
