Isang Letrato Ka Lang - an informal toast to the Filipino photojournalist

A joint group exhibit of 45 pictures, 45 photographers

The Oarhouse

1803 A. Mabini St.
Malate, Manila
(02) 450-8301

August 23 - September 30, 2004

Since its existence way back in the mid-70s, The Oarhouse along
historic Mabini Street in Malate, Manila has been the watering hole of
artists, writers, photographers, the academe, expats and thriving
professionals who've whiled away the night with their cornucopia of
tales and punditry.

Started by an American Peace Corps volunteer by the name of Chuck
Monroe, it was in these brown and dark confines of oakwood bar, brass
footings, a bumper pool table, cold beers and mixed exotic cuisine
that recorders of significant events in recent Philippine history
during the late seventies, eighties, and nineties shared their
thoughts and life stories on culture, politics, and the arts.

Historic in a sense that when the old Oarhouse found itself in the
doldrums a couple of years back did a group of young entrepreneurs and
its regulars decided to resuscitate life back to this dingy but cozy
hideout.

To highlight the resurrection of The Oarhouse back to its glory days
is a two-part group photographic exhibit of 45 Filipino
photojournalists who have provided their home city of Manila and the
country with the window that has continuously changed the peoples'
daily perception of life.

The two-part exhibit will run from August 23 to September 30 and will
showcase the work of the following photographers:
