Been around before but always good as a reminder. /fontfamily>
/fontfamily> Her
hair was up in a pony tail,/fontfamily> her
favorite dress tied with a
bow./fontfamily> Today was Daddy's Day at
school,/fontfamily> and she couldn't wait to
go./fontfamily>
But her mommy tried to
tell her,/fontfamily> that she probably
should stay home./fontfamily> Why the kids
might not understand,/fontfamily> if she
went to school alone./fontfamily>
But
she was not afraid;/fontfamily> she knew
just what to say./fontfamily> What to tell
her classmates/fontfamily> of why he wasn't
there today./fontfamily>
But still her
mother worried,/fontfamily> for her to face
this day alone./fontfamily> And that was why
once again,/fontfamily> she tried to keep
her daughter home./fontfamily>
But the
little girl went to school/fontfamily> eager
to tell them all./fontfamily> About a dad
she never sees/fontfamily> a dad who never
calls./fontfamily>
There were daddies
along the wall in back,/fontfamily> for
everyone to meet,/fontfamily> Children
squirming impatiently,/fontfamily> anxious
in their seats./fontfamily>
One by one
the teacher called/fontfamily> a student
from the class,/fontfamily> to introduce
their daddy,/fontfamily> as seconds slowly
passed./fontfamily>
At last the teacher
called her name,/fontfamily> every child
turned to stare./fontfamily> each of them
was searching,/fontfamily> for a man who
wasn't there./fontfamily>
"Where's her
daddy at?"/fontfamily> She heard a boy call
out./fontfamily> "She probably doesn't have
one,"/fontfamily> another student dared to
shout./fontfamily>
And from somewhere
near the back,/fontfamily> she heard a daddy
say,/fontfamily> "Looks like another
deadbeat dad,/fontfamily> too busy to waste
his day."/fontfamily>
The words did not
offend her,/fontfamily> as she smiled up at
her Mom,/fontfamily> And looked back at her
teacher,/fontfamily> who told her to go on./fontfamily> And with hands behind her
back,/fontfamily> slowly she began to speak./fontfamily> And out from the mouth of
a child,/fontfamily> came words incredibly
unique./fontfamily>
"My Daddy couldn't
be here,/fontfamily> because he lives so far
away./fontfamily> But I know he wishes he
could be,/fontfamily> since this is such a
special day./fontfamily>
And though you
cannot meet him,/fontfamily> I wanted you to
know./fontfamily> All about my daddy/fontfamily> and how much he loves me
so./fontfamily>
He loved to tell me
stories/fontfamily> he taught me to ride my
bike./fontfamily> He surprised me with pink
roses,/fontfamily> and taught me to fly a
kite./fontfamily>
We used to share fudge
sundaes,/fontfamily> and ice cream in a
cone./fontfamily> And though you cannot see
him,/fontfamily> I'm not standing here
alone./fontfamily>
"Cause my daddy's
always with me,/fontfamily> even though we
are apart/fontfamily> I know because he told
me,/fontfamily> he'll forever be in my
heart"/fontfamily> With that, her little
hand reached up/fontfamily> and lay across
her chest,/fontfamily> Feeling her own
heartbeat,/fontfamily> beneath her favorite
dress./fontfamily>
And from somewhere in
the crowd of dads,/fontfamily> her mother
stood in tears./fontfamily> Proudly watching
her daughter,/fontfamily> who was wise
beyond her years./fontfamily>
For she
stood up for the love/fontfamily> of a man
not in her life./fontfamily> Doing what was
best for her,/fontfamily> doing what was
right./fontfamily>
And when she dropped
her hand back down,/fontfamily> staring
straight into the crowd./fontfamily> She
finished with a voice so
soft,/fontfamily> but its message clear and
loud./fontfamily>
"I love my daddy very
much,/fontfamily> he's my shining star./fontfamily> And if he could, he'd be
here,/fontfamily> but heaven's just too
far."/fontfamily> You see he was a fireman/fontfamily> and died just this past
year/fontfamily> When airplanes hit the
towers/fontfamily> and taught Americans to
fear./fontfamily>
But sometimes when I
close my eyes,/fontfamily> it's like he
never went away."/fontfamily> And then she
closed her eyes,/fontfamily> and saw him
there that day./fontfamily>
And to her
mothers amazement,/fontfamily> she witnessed
with surprise./fontfamily> A room full of
daddies and children,/fontfamily> all
starting to close their eyes./fontfamily>
Who knows what they
saw before them,/fontfamily> who knows what
they felt inside./fontfamily> Perhaps for
merely a second,/fontfamily> they saw him at
her side./fontfamily> "I know you're with me
Daddy,"/fontfamily> to the silence she
called out./fontfamily> And what happened
next made believers/fontfamily> of those
once filled with doubt./fontfamily>
Not
one in that room could explain it,/fontfamily> for each of their eyes had
been closed./fontfamily> But there on the
desk beside her,/fontfamily> was a fragrant
long-stemmed pink rose./fontfamily>
And
a child was blessed, if only for a/fontfamily> moment, by the love of her
shining star,/fontfamily> and given the gift
of believing,/fontfamily> that heaven is
never too far./fontfamily>
They say it
takes a minute to find a/fontfamily> special
person, an hour to appreciate them,/fontfamily> a day to love them, but
then an entire life to
forget/fontfamily> them./fontfamily>
Send
this to the people you'll
never/fontfamily> forget and remember to
send it also to the person/fontfamily> that
sent it to you. It's a short message to/fontfamily> let them know that you'll
never forget them./fontfamily>
If you
don't send it to anyone, it means/fontfamily> you're in a hurry and that
you've/fontfamily> forgotten your friends/fontfamily> Take the time...to live
and love./fontfamily> until eternity./fontfamily>
