Oh my, could I relate with the story ("Mall Incident")
below. We lost Gambel (my 4-year old) for a few
traumatic minutes in the sea of kids in the "Market!
Market!" playground last Sunday. When Gambel got off
the slide and ran to where I assumed was the way back
up the slide, I took my eyes off him for a few seconds
and looked to where Mike was going as he ran after our
eldest, Jam. When I looked back to where Gambel was,
wala na siya and I thought he was up the slide na.
When he wasn't among the kids sliding down, that's
when I panicked, about the same time Mike came back
asking where Gambel was.

There were so many kids, and just so many people, we
had a hard time "sorting" him out from the kids
running around. We split up to search for him and
Mike found Gambel near the gate, clinging to a pole,
sobbing, looking every inch the boy who thought na
iniwan na siya ng mga magulang niya. (Lucky for us, he
didn't think of leaving the playground.)

Grabe. You could never imagine my terror (and guilt,
afterall it was I who was watching him)in those few
minutes. What if we really lost him?.... I was ready
to die and at the same time about to tear the place
apart just to find my son. It was like "The Deep End
of the Ocean" for me.

I was just overwhelmed and I can't say enough thank
yous to God that we found him. And yes, I will never
ever let something like that happen again.

Mall Incident

Yesterday, our whole family was in Festival Mall for
the celebration of my newest nephew's 'Dedication' and
the birthday celebration of another nephew ... After
lunch , we treated the kids to some rides at Pixie
Forest. So while enjoying all the rides with the
'smaller' kids, my eldest son Matthew, was on his own
going around the arcade playing the video games. He
was really just around the place , nakikita pa namin
sya every few minutes. Suddenly when we were about to
board this ride, my Kuya came rushing to us with a
look on his face i'll never forget, saying " may
tumawag sa akin, gamit ang phone ni Matthew, hawak daw
nya ang bata at papatayin daw nya ito." After hearing
that ... it was longest split second for me ....
parang my whole world froze and all sorts of 'worst'
things ran through my mind in that second...

Grabe talaga!! Then jojo (my husband) called up
Matthew's no. and the 'alleged kidnapper' answered the
phone... asking for money ... and saying of a meeting
place in the evening ... Grabe! gabi pa daw! Jojo was
really on the verge of tears while trying to be in
control and thinking fast in negotiating with the guy.
Kagulo na kame ... we called the guards.. nobody could
help us if they noticed this kid with another guy or
something like that. Jojo went running na to the
supposed meeting place. We gathered all the kids kasi
the guy said he knows all the kids daw who are with
us.. My Papa all the while was quiet ... yun pala he
was thinking na hindi puedeng mawala si matthew kasi
he just saw him like a minute ago playing some video
games within the arcade mismo. So he decided to go
back in ... and true enough Matthew was there!!! So
what happened pala, nanakaw yung cell phone ... he
recalled kasi that there was this moment na parang
biglang 2 lalaki magkasunod na bumangga sa kanya ...
and when my Papa saw him he was actually starting to
look for his cell phone and he was wondering san
napunta since it was just in his pocket... So this guy
was just bluffing that he got the kid... Then we had
to call off jojo and my kuya who was already to 'face'
the 'kidnapper' ... kaso his phone was busy kasi he
was continuously talking to this guy ....

After a while, nakabalik na rin sila... si jojo galit
na galit na even if he knew that Matthew is already
with us, he still wanted to meet the guy .. at
isuplong sa pulis... we had to pacify him kasi baka
mas may nasaktan pa ....

We were all just thanking God and praising Him that
our son is safe... it was such an eye-opener also for
us kasi we are so used to letting matthew go on his
way ... to read some books in the bookstore while we
are somewhere else in the mall ... or something like
that. We were so confident and thinking may cell phone
naman sya and we can always just call him if we want
him to go back...From now on .. that will never happen
again...

Mothers, Fathers, Titos and Titas... NEVER EVER let
your eyes off your children and pamagkins when you are
out in the Malls or crowded places...

hope we can all learn from this ...
