Wouldn't this be more productive if he sent this to Mall of Asia authorities,
netopia management instead of yahoogroups ????

Subject: snatching spree's at MOA atbpa

After three weeks on palawan on a documentary shoot for a foundation - i came
back to manila perhaps a little too relaxed. After my kids last day of classes
for the year at the small school they attended we decided to give them a treat
and let them play some video games for the afternoon at the Mall of Asia.
The shop we went to was Netopia, its clean well lit, and seemed to be well run.
However, it seems something was amiss. I had brought my work camera along. Its
not too fancy a simple little HDV semi-profesional camera I sometimes use for
news coverage or special projects.
I also brought ten tapes of working material I planned to have dubbed onto a
hard drive at one of the digital shops at MOA.
Sadly, in as little as twenty seconds - the time it took to stand up and ask my
son if he wanted me to buy him some softdrinks. Poof it was gone - my
camerabag, tapes of my kids school play. A flash drive with hndreds of pictures
of my palawan trip and a camera that allowed me to save a lot on equiptment
rentals.
Here's where the story got interesting. Knowing and seeing security camaera on
the walls of the show I asked the store if they could review the files of the
thier in house CCTV cameras.
The strange answer was the camera's were off. I reported the insident to SM
Mall of Asia's security only to learn even more that that particular store had
a huge number of thefts. Even reports of children being robbed inside the store
and worse - been dragged outside.
The shop is nealry always full. So its making a lot revenue - its wide screeen
video games and two small private rooms are always packed. As well as the lan
games area for kids and adults along with the intnet area.
It may be a coinsidence that the shops securty camera's were off - it may be
popular place hence snatchers are attracted by the size of the crowds and
people bringing camera bags and gadgets in.
But what surpirsed me the most was the reaction I got from the small Pasay City
Police outpost PS11 of MOA.
The officers there took my statement - and informed me openly the store is hit
nealry every few days by snatchers. The survaince cameras are always conviently
left off. They have responded to numberous complaints and other crimes that
have either occured inside that shop or near it.
They alleged that the outlet's employee's might know more than they are saying
and further because the owner of the franchise is well connected no complaint
gets to SM Mall of Asia Mangement.
Sadly, losing a camera is bad enough - but I thank good niether of my sons were
hurt. In past cases kids who have chashed after snatchers there have been
bludgeoned or slashed.
The open and friendly world of MOA's entertainment area has now become a
playground not only to children and kids of all ages but also of some of the
worst criminal gangs in the metropolis.
If indeed crime gangs are there then what else could be happening in that
glistening symbol of progress along Manila Bay.
I know MOA is private property- thus it is hard to film or report on any goings
on there-in. But perhaps a story could be done to show that malls are not as
safe as people think.

Good Morning and God Bless
