A power failure along with a battery failure *could* result in file
corruption, NOT deletion.

Deletion requires:
- an automated system (anti-virus for example) to explicitly delta the
file
- a user explicitly deleting the file
- reinstallation of the OS
- system recovery (maybe)

I would not worry so much about the 4D application so much as the
customer's data and structure files. The application can be reinstalled
in a few minutes, AND (even on windows) I believe that the various
preferences and license will be intact.

If these are NOT intact, then likely they reinstalled the OS, or did
some sort of system recovery to a very old state before 4D was
installed.
