For you long time Mac users, you will probably remember ProVUE Development - James Rea - I used his database product BEFORE I used 4D (it was available before 4D shipped in 1987). His latest product is called Panorama X - previously I used Panorama Sheets from the Mac App Store. Why am I telling you about another database product on the 4D NUG? Here are my use cases: Raw Data Cleanup - if you ever have to bring in data from another system, you’ve probably written some custom code in 4D to clean up the data on import. I use Panorama X to interactively clean up data before importing. You can script Panorama X to do this if you need to repeat your cleanup many times. I love the multiple undos when I screw up the data! Data Browsing - ever wonder what all your data in 4D ‘looks like’? Tried browsing your data in the debugger? I export the changes my code hath wrought to the data and check it in Panorama. No more creating a layout to check your data in the old ‘User Environment’. Data Analysis - if your client wants some sophisticated stats on their data - just export and build a nice custom report w/stats quickly in Panorama. Includes mapping presentation for GeoData. Some features: RAM based - lightning fast Programmable interface JSON support Multi-level Undo and Redo Record ‘Macros’ like in Excel or use their programming language Downsides: Flat File - not relational One more language/interface to learn - not necessary bad, but something to consider Mac Only - again, not bad - you Windows folks need to wise up ;-) System Requirements: macOS 10.9 or later Unique payment model, too.
