Of course 4D should, but that doesn’t mean that it will. Something called
“bugs” or “bad design decisions” lead to things like this happening. :)

I would do 2 things to eliminate this issue:

1. Go to Database Settings -> Database -> Memory and turn off “Calculatioon of
adaptive cache”. Then set the cache “Size” to a value that is reasonable for
your database. One way is to set the cache size to 1/2 the size of the data
file. So if you have a 2GB data file, set the cache to 1GB — if you have the
memory to spare on your machine. You have to make this decision on what is
“reasonable". Whatever is the current cache size is, it is way too small and
that is resulting all these “.temp” files being created.

2. Go to Database Settings -> Database -> Data Storage and change “Temporary
Folder Location” to “System”. That way if 4D ever does create temporary file
they will go into the operating system’s temp folder and you will never see
them. The operating system will automatically clear out temp folder contents
when you restart the machine.
