Are you checking on the mySQL server side to see what is going on there? Restart mySQL?
If it was running that long without a hiccup it's probably not this but make sure all the connections are closed and none left hanging open. We had that problem a while back where we kept opening new connections and not closing them. A long shot but you asked for some ideas.
