I emailed him yesterday. 

His immediate response:

I just checked with support and none of us can recall that a separate license 
was required for 4D Insider. Not that it wasn't – but I can't find one 
anywhere. Are you sure you're using 4D 2003 Developer Edition? 

I found the serial for the developer edition as well, so I might try that and 
see what happens.
