Hi, I'm not sure this actually made it to our old list, so I'm posting it again here on the new one...
Tony. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: BIOS/RTC batteries Date: Wed, 05 Mar 2014 13:19:01 +0000 From: Tony Travis <[email protected]> Organisation: Minke Informatics Limited To: [email protected] Hi, Last night at the "Space" I was talking about fitting the correct BIOS/RTC batteries on our older HDMA motherboards in six of the 2U 'Rackable Systems' servers because of this warning in the manual: > ftp://ftp.sgi.com/public/Technical%20Support/Pdf%20files/Arima/HDAMA_Rev.I.pdf > [...] > Danger of explosion if battery is in > correctly replaced. Replace only with > the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. I'm not sure what revision our older motherboards are, but the six Asus motherboards are a lot newer and will not have re-chargeable BIOS/RTC batteries in them. I think we should be OK to use the generic CR2032's that Iain has bought, but we should check what the old battery type is when replacing them: If they are re-chargeable, they will probably be of type LR/ML2032, not CR2032, and have "rechargeable" stamped on them. If anyone wants to try replacing the batteries in the DOA 2U servers, I hid them under the desk on the right as you enter the "Space" after I fitted 4@250GB disks in each one last night ready to install Ubuntu ;-) [please dispose of old batteries in an environmentally responsible way] HTH, Tony. -- Minke Informatics Limited, Registered in Scotland - Company No. SC419028 Registered Office: 15 Highfield Avenue, Banchory, AB31 4FB Scotland (UK) tel. +44(0)1330 824292 http://minke-informatics.co.uk mob. +44(0)7985 078324 mailto:[email protected] -- Minke Informatics Limited, Registered in Scotland - Company No. SC419028 Registered Office: 15 Highfield Avenue, Banchory, AB31 4FB Scotland (UK) tel. +44(0)1330 824292 http://minke-informatics.co.uk mob. +44(0)7985 078324 mailto:[email protected] _______________________________________________ 57north-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.57north.co/listinfo/57north-discuss
