I don't know ratpoison, but I like the frame based Ion. For Ion it's possible to resize frame areas. Ion isn't a WM, it has got no windows, but tabs with frames, that are similar to windows. It's possible to have two or more frames instead of tabs. If you have a computer, that isn't able to run recordmydesktop acceptable for a WM like Fluxbox, because Fluxbox needs to much resources, the computer should be able to make films with recordmydesktop in real-time, when running on Ion. http://linuxreviews.org/man/ion/
