I've got troubles with doing this, but if it really is the Network that
causes the troubles, then it might be enough to run

# su
# killall NetworkManager

So if you have the same problem, then I guess you don't need a second
user or second install.

I don't have any problems with this, but I have heard that some codecs
or Java plug or Flash plug are working better as 32bit versions.
Sometimes I have problems with Java internet stuff, but I don't care and
I don't know if it really has to do with 32bit vs 64bit. Anyway, you are
using 32bit hardware, so it is irrelevant.
