Hi all,

may I ask the fellow users of 64Studio for a piece of advice?

My situation is: I am working as OS developer on a video-related project, while
at the same time doing professional CD recording. This far, 64Studio has served
me very favourably since several years, because it gave me a stable reliable
system which just works.

But the fact Lenny is now the reference system for my development efforts drove
me into a more and more hazardous situation. Just I couldn't do anything about
it prior to finishing my latest CD project, which is done now. So, basically
I've got a window of, say two months for upgrading my system such as to be
able to keep up with the development and for doing the next recording
projects scheduled for spring.

I've noticed several people have tried to upgrade to a 64Studio/Lenny mix.
What are the general experiences? The important question for me would be:
Is this an option worth considering at all, or can I immediately skip it
and look for other alternatives?

- - running an AMD64 X2 in 64bit mode
- - only doing multichannel sound with Jack/Ardour and a RME Multiface
- - using MIDI only for controlling Ardour via a Behringer BCF2000
- - currently running 2.6.22-1-multimedia-amd64 SMP
- - running an ("old") ATI Radeon X300 with the open source ATI driver
without problems; this is even sufficient to give me HD video playback.

There seems to be a Jack/Libjack package for Version 0.116 in Sid. I am
willing to do backports or compile parts myself and put some time into it,
just if the results are worth the effort, or at least there are good
chances that I'll end up with a stable and usable system for the next
1 1/2 Years. That's why I am asking for any hints, experiences, pointers...

Thanks,
Hermann Vosseler
