PS: I don't like "vmlinuz links". Sometimes they are in the root directory, sometimes they are in the /boot directory and the /boot directory might have it's own partition. Which partitions are you using for which of your Linux distros?

This might happen, if the wrong kernel is loaded. Maybe vmlinuz is linked to a wrong kernel, maybe root is set to another path, than the root path of the kernel or initrd.
