There is a movement by Linux audio coders, but maybe they are tilting at 
windmilles. Sometimes it might be a help to have a Windows install, just 
to see if the used hardware isn't broken. If things are fine with 
Windows, that aren't fine with Linux, you'll know that there is 
something to fix for your Linux. But if trouble on Windows is the same 
as on Linux, the hardware might be broken. In general PCs aren't 
unproblematic for making music. All those expensive standalone audio 
workstations sell well, because modern computers often make troubles. If 
things for PC and Mac were fine, nobody would buy e.g. a Korg Oasys for 
7000 EUR, having a limited hd recorder and sequencer, a limited screen, 
limited virtual audio generators etc.. The Korg Oasis is based on Linux, 
but does cost much more than a PC + a keyboard, while it's functionality 
seems to be less good as for PC Linux or Windows installations. Anyway, 
people buy such workstations ;). I guess they do buy those workstations 
with good reason.
