currently i,m using Debian Wheezy B4, with Gnome 3 and Linux RT. The Performance is better than AVLinux and DreamStudio with Linux-Lowlatency. I am having rock solid JACK2 sound server on 32 frames/period and 1.33msec latency (AV Linux made it up to 64 frames/period, under condition that i kill the ETH0 connection) I will suggest XFCE, if you are not a fan of Pulseaudio or 3D acceleration, although Gnome 3 really performs very smoothly without the need to login under fallback mode. Nevertheless i am hoping to see Multimedia oriented Debian ISO with Ardour 3 out of the box in the foreseeable future.
PS: You guys are the main reason to fall in love with Linux and FOSS software.
