Dear 6Lo WG,

(CC'ing the SCHC WG.)

Please find below the main pointers to the updated version of the "SCHC-Lo"
draft, that is, draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-11.

This last revision aims to address the comments that we received in IETF
123 (Madrid).

The main updates include:

- Section 3.1: clarification of the different SCHC Strata that may be used,
for both the main protocol stack and the transition protocol stack,
considering different approaches for securing CoAP. This includes
illustrating the scenarios and corresponding protocol stacks when a 6LN
communicates with an external endpoint.

- Section 5.2: added the formats for SCHC-based compression of UDP and CoAP
(including use of OSCORE), based on separate SCHC Strata. This includes the
corresponding SCHC Stratum Header formats.

There are also a few minor clarifications added as well elsewhere in the
draft.

Comments are welcome!

Cheers,

Carles and Ana

Internet-Draft draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-11.txt is now available. It is a
work item of the IPv6 over Networks of Resource-constrained Nodes (6LO) WG
of
the IETF.

Title: Transmission of SCHC-compressed packets over IEEE 802.15.4
networks
   Authors: Carles Gomez
            Ana Minaburo
   Name: draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-11.txt

Abstract:

A framework called Static Context Header Compression and
fragmentation (SCHC) has been designed with the primary goal of
supporting IPv6 over Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies
[RFC8724]. One of the SCHC components is a header compression
mechanism. If used properly, SCHC header compression allows a
greater compression ratio than that achievable with traditional
6LoWPAN header compression [RFC6282]. For this reason, it may make
sense to use SCHC header compression in some 6LoWPAN environments,
including IEEE 802.15.4 networks. This document specifies how a
SCHC-compressed packet can be carried over IEEE 802.15.4 networks.
The document also enables the transmission of SCHC-compressed UDP/
CoAP headers over 6LoWPAN-compressed IPv6 packets.
