Dear 6lo WG,

(CC'ing the SCHC WG.)

Please find below the main pointers to our last revision of the
"Transmission of SCHC-compressed packets over IEEE 802.15.4 networks" draft
(a.k.a. "the SCHC-Lo draft").

Main changes:
o Addressed the comments from Esko's comprehensive review (many thanks,
Esko!):
         - Modified PRO to allow routers read and set ECN bits from the
IPv6 header
         - Improved the specification of the PRO Address Residue Length
field
         - Clarified: hybrid approaches (mesh-under, route over), SCHC
C/D for messages from/to 6LRs/6LBRs
         - Removed a note on the term '6LN' for consistent use throughout
the document
         - Several editorial improvements
         - Reduced figures X-axis sizes
o Aligned the terminology with terms considered stable in
draft-ietf-schc-architecture-05:
         - SCHC Control Header, SCHC Data, SCHC Datagram.

Comments are very much welcome!

Cheers,

Carles and Ana

Internet-Draft draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-12.txt is now available. It is a
work item of the IPv6 over Networks of Resource-constrained Nodes (6LO) WG
of
the IETF.

Title: Transmission of SCHC-compressed packets over IEEE 802.15.4
networks
   Authors: Carles Gomez
            Ana Minaburo
   Name: draft-ietf-6lo-schc-15dot4-12.txt

Abstract:

A framework called Static Context Header Compression and
fragmentation (SCHC) has been designed with the primary goal of
supporting IPv6 over Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies
[RFC8724]. One of the SCHC components is a header compression
mechanism. If used properly, SCHC header compression allows a
greater compression ratio than that achievable with traditional
6LoWPAN header compression [RFC6282]. For this reason, it may make
sense to use SCHC header compression in some 6LoWPAN environments,
including IEEE 802.15.4 networks. This document specifies how a
SCHC-compressed packet can be carried over IEEE 802.15.4 networks.
The document also enables the transmission of SCHC-compressed UDP/
CoAP headers over 6LoWPAN-compressed IPv6 packets.
