Hello all,

Haven't met anyone here in person yet, because the last meeting was on a day I
was working...so, greetings to everyone! :)

Maybe someone can help me out.

Background: I'm running Mandrake 10 at home as a webserver/personal
workstation combo. We have a small LAN w/ my wife's Mac Powerbook and a
win98 tester box on the LAN. (She does graphic design and website design.)
Proftpd is running as an ftp server. I'm able to FTP to the Mandrake box
just fine w/ OS X and windows (not passive mode). About 2 weeks ago, I put
Linux (Mandrake) on my father-in-law's HP notebook. He doesn't know much
about Linux but is already impressed.

We're now trying to download stuff via FTP from my server to his Linux
notebook, but FTP always hangs trying to do file listing. Sounds like the
classic firewall problem, but why does it work fine to FTP to my server using
OS X or Win98?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm just doing something stupid
here...?

Marcus
