Okay, forgot to digitally sign the original. This one should be signed.

Just to be correct. They really aren't giving away free SSH certs. It
is a community CA (Certificate Authority) for SSL (not SSH) certs.

For example, if any of you have CAcert's Class1 & Class3 root CA
certificates in your mail client, you should be able to see my S/MIME
signature attached to this, and that would validate pretty strongly that
this came from me.

The way CAcert works is that you generate your own certificates, and the
strength/time-of-validity is based on how many trust points you have
(similar to the PGP web-of-trust model) You can generate SSL Server,
SSL Client, and Personal Verification (e-mail, code-signing, etc...)

I have enough points to grant people with enough points to generate a
standard server certificate with 2-yr validity. That, and getting two
or three other people to assure you and you would have the max number of
points, (good for giving higher points to others when you certify them)

I would like to propose that we have a meeting, like a pizza party or
something, but somewhere with net access, and have an assurance event,
(similar to PGP key-signing party) where we all meet in person and go
through the process. At the end of that, each of us should be able to
generate free SSL certificates for each of our domains (much like I do now)

Is anyone else interested in this? Good. Any suggestions for the date?
I propose a Tuesday or Wednesday night or anytime on a Sunday. It would
be best if we do this between Feb 26 - March 26. I'd like to aim for
around 6:00 pm somewhere near Loma Linda, where we can hold 30 or more
people, and both find good net access, as well as have pizza or
something brought in. We'll probably get visitors from other LUG's, so
some place like one of our homes might be less preferable than a public
location.

Comments anyone?

Thanks,
