I finally jumped on the ddwrt bandwagon. I got a $40 Buffalo WHR-G54S, flashed it (http://tinyurl.com/y2fbed), and now have a kickbutt little router. The txmit is now over 2x the factory default, and I notice I have significantly better signal throughout my house. :)
Thanks to Rusty for googling for the right part number If you need something googled, call him. It's the funniest thing to hear what sounds like tweaked out chipmunks speaking Chinese coming from his computer speakers. Roger
