I have several MCSEs applying for a networking position at my company. Here is my little practical that they have to do in 2 hours.
Fair? You will be given around two hours to complete the following requirements: • recovery console o Install (c:\i386 already exists) o change time to display recovery options to 15 seconds o Pretend I'm the CEO of company. Tell me why you did installed that. • Exchange o add users john.doe and jane.doe, create "does" distribution list, forward john.doe's email to [email protected] (with a copy on the server). o Install files in c:\installs\ o Set mailbox retention policies for 90 days o Info store doesn't mount upon each reboot. What might be the problem? • AD o Change two users' home dir to \\rr\installs o Enable MyDoc Redirect for two users • Configure DNS o Add forwarders o Prove that A records are properly updated. If not, what could have gone wrong? o Setup secondary zone for ArielDNS.com • Configure DHCP o Get DHCP ready to hand out IPs (but don't enable until we turn off primary DHCP server) o Show relation between MAC addresses and IP addresses o Write down MAC address of Ariel's gateway. o Prove it works with one of our laptops. • NTFS folder stuff o Create four users CEO his three sons: Curly, Larry, Moe. o Create secret EXECUTIVE folder in c:\share\ for CEO's family members (Curly, Larry, Moe) e.g. • EXECUTIVE o CEO o Larry o Curly o Moe o Pretend I am CEO. Prove to me that my stuff is secure. Explain to me limitations of solution and (if necessary) what 3rd party utilities might overcome these limitations. o CEO, paranoid that you didn't do a good job, removed everyone but him from his folder and jacked up your NTFS settings. What do you do to re-establish permissions? • After you're done configuring server, what might you to do quickly take "snapshot" of config for documentation and/or compliancy purposes?
