I'm looking for open source alternatives to imaging solutions like Symantec and Acronis.
Partimage works ok when compared to something like Norton Ghost 8 / 2003. Like Norton, it requires to you to "drop down" to another OS to do the image, allowing you to bypass any garbage (screwy installers, missing passwords, not having admin rights, etc) that might prevent its installation. It's a little slow imaging (when I use compression) but restore seems extremely fast when compared to what I'm used to with Norton. Partimage "works" if you're want to boot to a CD and take the time to create a full blown image of the hard drive, but what if you simply want something that does incremental backups? Tonight I (re)found Amanda by googling. Not sure if that's overkill or too cumbersome for what I wanna do, though.
