So, I rebooted, went through (I thought) the same steps, and it
worked. I am in the 'test' DB like I'm expecting ("mysql>use
test"....."database changed"..."mysql>"...etc.etc).
Now, on the ODBC 3.5.x config on my Windows box, I've created a DSN to
the local 172net IP as user / password and am trying to connect to
'test' database. That's not working. (error message: [MySQL][ODBC
3.51 Driver]Can't connect to MySQL server on '172.16.100.200' (10065).
(From my XP box, I can nmap the CentOS MySQL box, so it's not a firewall issue.)
