It actually has to do with the licensing of the firefox logo. The mozilla org has a license that some UBER F/OSS people don't like. So its essentially firefox with the firefox logo stripped out. Debian tends to be the UBER F/OSS crowd, hence the switch.

Lots of cool "laptop-friendly" features in the install as compared to
Sarge. One funny change is that Firefox is now called "Iceweasel". I
suppose that there was some fallout over the name or something.
