Unfortunately corporate America is more likely to appreciate the
"opensource" point of view where they can at least charge people for
their products.

I can appreciate where RMS comes from on this. He worked very hard on
something and it is given a name that does not reflect his efforts.
That being said we are a society that likes to simplify things (some
call it lazy). Tissues are called Kleenex, copies are called Xerox,
plastic bags are called zip locks. We don't always buy the brand name
but we still refer to the generics as item name. Regardless of the
fact that we butcher the English language in general we (IMHO) don't
mind using the wrong word so long as the person(s) we are speaking too
understand what we mean by it.
I had to come up with a name for the group I wished to start. I want
to make this available to anyone interested in Open Source, Free
Software, GNU, and etc.. Now coming up with a name can be challenging,
and you see acronyms like OSS, and FLOSS and so on. When trying to
adapt this it can get very messy. Rather then SRCFLOSS or SRCGLUG
because it just looks like gibberish. I chose to just use Linux
(SRCLE). People show up and we talk about GNU, Perl, Python, Bash,
PHP, and everything else. If I wanted to start a Python User Group
that easy to name, but if I want to incorporate everything around
GNU/FLOSS what name would you pick? RMS and cohort just need to just
accept it, geeks have labeled/branded this entire thing Linux.
Sometimes we say Linux and we don't meant the kernel we mean the whole
GNU/FLOSS thing. Maybe it isn't right but it is what it is.
It sounds a little childish to me at this point. Maybe when it first
began if he had raised more of a stink but its too late now.
Thats like me not buying Asparagus because the store didn't label it
as "Sparrow Grass" as it was originally called. They call it what
people know it as.
