I am not concerned at all. This is the beauty of GPL. If apple tries to screw it up, which I doubt they will, since they've been using it for years in OSX, someone else can just create their own derivative project and move on from there.

Nah its not any more a bad thing then when google and other people hired the main developers for any other platform. Apple has been using cups for Mac OS X printing for a long time now. They will still be releasing under the gpl, obviously apple might have specific things that they will not release just as they don't always release the changes made to safari back to its originator.... Also think of it this way... if cups _was_ for sale, imagine if microsoft bought it?
