Alright. Such 'f, f*'  has already been proposed and shown, most
clearly, by yy at the beginning of this thread.
I agree it is functional and perhaps sufficient for now.
Let's consider this finished.
(Until I come up with some even more compelling argument in favor of
counted repetition...)
