rc -c 'shift; echo @ $* @' `{echo a b c}

surprisingly, * can be assigned to.

echo a b c | rc -c '*=`{read}; shift; echo @ $* @'
echo a b c | rc -c '*=`{read}; echo @ $*(2-) @'
