if we do this step by step like this on the mailinglist it will take way too many roundtrips. commonly you'd use a proper dev setup with working 9front on another pc. basically you need stable footings first before you start your training. cinap has one and already volunteered to use it to build a kernel just for you to try out, you'll just have to be a bit patient. our documentation might not suffice to teach you all this at once in the perfect order you need in the meantime, but you can still try to catch up as much as possible by reading the documentation available, we have some .ms or .pdf files that serve as introduction, we have a fqa that serves as a more modern 9front-specific intro, and we have the huge collection of man pages, where each section also has a short intro. don't expect this to work right away if you have zero prior unix skills, but you can play around a bit at least: if you know how to use patch on other unix systems it's quite similar here, run man patch. you also need mk for running our makefiles.
