I appreciate the feedback, folks. I’ve incorporated several of the suggestions: replaced the copies of 9front system utilities (patch, diff, merge3, walk) with a simple vendoring procedure, removed the ape/diff references, and did some general cleanup. The patch is now noticeably smaller and easier to re‑apply on top of current 9front.
I’ll keep the work available at: https://github.com/yrk-lab/9front on the git4e branch, which is now the default for the fork. It can be used to track further changes in the same way Ron described above. The contrib bundle (contrib/install yk/git) remains available for easier bootstrapping.
