I would say that "fresh new better version of C" does not define Zig, any more than it defines any other language that is not C. Zig is very much its own thing, and it is very interesting, and I've found it useful to understand the tradeoffs it makes, many of which I agree with. In the end, though, I still use Go.
For those not familiar with the "rewrite plan 9 in rust", you can see that project here: github.com:r9os/r9.git. For those not familiar with Zig, Andrew Kelley, who created it, has a great set of videos on youtube. I enjoy his talks. I think they're worth watching. At the very least you'll get a look at some interesting ideas, even if, in the end, you decide you don't want to use Zig. Does Zig have a use on Plan 9? I guess time will tell!
