my personal opinion regarding cascading a thread vs. branching a new one is that, it is cleaner to start a new thread, especially if conversations regarding each topic is continued or not (just like this response to one part of the question). it also makes it easier to search for a specific question months or years later. but the most important thing is to ask the question.
