Im trying to invision your setup. You have a plan9 host and a long video cable that leads to another room?
I would, for fun or what not, is setup that system in another room as a fs/cpu/auth server and then maybe get another device for the other room to connect to with maybe a diskless terminal or normal install on a lower powered system, like a raspberry pi or an intel n100 board.
