You can find a version of 'pi' which can read Dwarf-format at https://github.com/noelhunt/PadsPi. Since 'stabs' was the only debugging format available at the time, that is what the original 'pi' was written for.
Dave Kapilow kept up development of 'pi' after Tom Cargill left research, it seems. He donated a late version of his work to, I think, the Software Preservation group/website, which is listed as a 'significant project written in C++'. Tom Cargill's C++ is little more than what was called 'C with classes' in the early 80s.
