Yes. That's right. Whole story (from Linus's point of view) is in Linus's Just for Fun book. Really Linux was just a terminal emulator for connecting to the University computer. Linus announce the creation of some working code in minix mailing list and Linus name himself as a great fan of Andy Tannenbaum's book The Design and Implementation of OS (Minix book)
