Try disabling the vga hw acceleration. I had some problems with it and vmware.

today i tried a plan9 image on an eval version of workstation 6. that image had been running on vmware workstation 4.5 and i believe i also verified it on version 5. after rio starts, display stays black - the first time i waited thinking it was still booting; however, right-clicking brings up rio's menu, though only the current item is visible. any ideas?
