Regarding Wireless... if you had cable or DSL, you could setup a
wireless router on the cable modem or dsl modem to share your internet
connection out.  Then, a laptop with wireless access could use that
connection.  Also, many retailers have started offering wireless
availability (including McDonald's).  For your personal home use, you
would still have to plug in the phone line to the laptop and dial up. 
B and G essentially refer to different speeds of data xfer.  If you
have a G router, and it is configured for B or G, then you could use
either device in a PC or laptop to connect.  If the G router is set
for G only, B users are SOL.
