If you are really concerned about surfing websites and people finding
out your IP address, looking into getting a good firewall.  A firewall
is a good line of defense against people getting into your computer.

A number of folks here use Zone Alarm, so I'm sure you'll get a lot of
replies that you should look at that program.  XP SP2 has a firewall
program, but I don't know how well it works.

Many routers come with a built in firewall that will do basically the
same thing.
