Dear Phyllis

To shut down the Windows XP Pro Firewall, go to Setting>Control Panel>
Security Center. You should be able to turn off the Windows Firewall from
there. If the firewall program you want to use has a small icon on the
system bar, you will be able to tell if it is enabled or not.

I use ZoneAlarm and I have a small icon showing it is running. Only when I
disable it, does Windows notify that my computer is not protected.

One other thing, running two firewall programs at the same time can cause
program conflicts.
