You must uninstall GoBack in order to install Windows XP because the Windows 98 install version isn't compatible with Windows XP. Any opportunity to restore would be lost. It's recommended that you perform a clean installation of Windows XP and not use the upgrade option during installation. Before installing Windows XP, you should: 1. Backup and check your data, documents, e-mail, favorites/bookmarks, etc. 2. Record and ISP information, passwords, etc. 3. Check that your computer meets the requirement for Windows XP, and get any drivers you will need to get on the internet using Windows XP (such as modem or network card drivers) Windows XP already has the software necessary to connect to DSL (replaces Enternet, Access Manager, etc.) and Cable internet built-in. 4. Check that you have the CDs and downloaded files to reinstall your applications. 5. Make sure some of your older applications and utilities are compatible with Windows XP. Many older Windows 98 disk utilities don't work in Windows XP. Versions of Norton Antivirus older than 2002 are not compatible with Windows XP. HINT: You can start the Windows XP disc from within Windows 98 to run the compatibility wizard that will check your hardware drivers and software for you before upgrading. 6. Once everything is ready for the upgrade: insert and boot off of the Windows XP setup disc. DO NOT RUN IT FROM WINDOWS 98. Use the Setup program to delete your old FAT32 partition and create a new one using the NTFS (quick) option. Windows setup will *very* quickly reformat and repartition your drives. Don't use the upgrade option, or the old FAT32 partition.
