Your previous monitor wouldn't have supported the default resolution on your SiS based video card. That monitor is an old 14" VGA monitor likely supporting only 640x480 at 60 Hz or lower. The default on new SiS drivers is 800x600 which your monitor would not have supported. If you wish to use the monitor install the "Generic VGA" monitor.
