First of all, IMO, Lexmark isn't a very reliable printer.  When one ink 
cartridge costs more than the printer...........
Anyway, try uninstalling the lexmark and reinstalling.  If that doesn't 
work, try going to the lexmark site and find the support page. They 
should have some faq's you can read as well as other troubleshooting tips.

In XP, you can choose which printer you want to use as the default.  
It's possible that the lexmark software is overriding this, in which 
case, there may be a setting in the lexmark software that you can 
disable.  I'm only thinking outloud but it's worth a look.
