I'm a group owner and moderator of a group for group owners and it certainly seems as though Yahoo has been doing some maintenance; well they have to do it sometime. What if Yahoo never did any maintenance for this free service that we have access to.
Unfortunately there is no longer any way we can determine when this might happen, it doesnt happen too often and we just have to be patient. But I can confirm you are not alone.
