There is no internet access via the Ethernet ports (broadband) and that is the first thing that died on the computer when it was infected with viruses and spyware. The count came up to over 400 viruses and quite as many spyware. I did try installing a USB ethernet adapter but that didn't work either. Local network access works on my peer to peer network from this computer. I can see the other computers, copy files back and forth and so forth but no internet access. Usually in this these cases (after working on many machines) I found the problem to be a bad network card or adapter, and after replacing it - problem goes away. This is the first time where this has not worked. Also, I used a little utility "Winsockfix" to try to reset or repair the Winsock and TCP but that didn't work which is why I was thinking this could all be related to the missing systems files or ones infected by the virus. I haven't tried using a standard modem yet thou. I've used the "Winsockfix" utility many times successfully in the past but this time no luck.
