All Abit motherboards al least the ones i've worked on do need a 4 pin 12 volt connector. Boards like MSI won't even run without this extra power supply cable. I would also take out the cpu and reseat it. I once did this on a customers computer and the pc fired right up. Its also possible that the motherboard is shorting out. You may have to take the mb out of the case and then put in back into the case.
