Got both computers fixed:
Turned out that my router went on vacation and stopped doing DHCP but the other computers on my home network were running just fine. I never turn my computers off - they run 24/7. Downloaded the Service Pack 4, and finally got it to install after trying a whole page of microsoft supposed fixes. I just tried all of them instead of trying and testing each one. Most if not all of the problems went away and everything else was just fine-tuning. My Win2k machines never gave me any trouble that I couldn't fix quickly, so I will remember all this research in case I ever run into this again. I've been working on this for 2 days....so much for my weekend, but it was a good learning experience. Bought 2 more 8port switches to add to my network and maybe my router won't complain this time.
